PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association)

CKM has an active PTSA to support programs, projects, and activities that benefit students and staff school-wide. CKM’s PTSA maintains an active affiliation with the California State PTA which entitles our organization to specific benefits such as low-cost insurance. Bylaws provide CKM’s PTSA with a governance structure and guidelines for operation.

The PTSA meets most months during the school year. All parents, students, teachers, administrators, and school staff have an open invitation to attend meetings. Occasionally, guest speakers such as community representatives, local business owners, and SCUSD board members attend meetings to present information or provide updates throughout the year.

Becoming a member

CKM’s PTSA boasts the most members (more than 400) of any other school in the district. Parents, students, teachers, administrators, and school staff are encouraged to become members.

The PTSA runs a membership campaign where CKM families, staff, teachers, and students join to support school-wide projects and programs. Membership forms are mailed home prior to the start of school and are available at PTSA meetings and other school events throughout the year. Memberships and donations are accepted year-round at orientation, in the CKM main office PTSA box, or by mail (to CKM, attn: PTSA).  Members are subscribed to the PTSA e-Blast to receive PTSA meeting notifications and information via e-mail. Cost of membership is $7 for adults, $5 for students.

PTSA Programs

The PTSA provides funding and recruits volunteers for several programs, projects, and activities that support the CKM school community, including:

  • Staff appreciation events to recognize our teachers and staff members for their hard work. Contact Marylon Rose.
  • Volunteers to support the work of the school’s Counseling Office; if interested contact, Omi Munthree, 264-4400, ext. 1229.
  • Testing incentives for students.
  • Volunteers to assist in math classrooms. Orientation sessions are expected to be scheduled prior to the start of school. Contact Rachel Weinreb.
  • Need-based student scholarships for Grad Night or the parent-sponsored senior trip to Disneyland.
  • Development and maintenance of the CKM website.

Budget and fundraising

PTSA has a modest annual budget of approximately $5,000. Funds primarily come from membership dues. Parents may also support the PTSA through the Raley’s Quality of Life and the eScrip programs. (See Donating for more information.)
